Mood change, I’m happy today

I’m quite happy today. Not because I had lots of fun at yesterday’s party, for which I’m completely dead after having danced salsa for more than 3 hours. I’m really happy because the Gentoo Infrastructure Team investigated what the Exherbo team reported (see details in my latest post).

This, incidentally, means that nobody can act like a sheriff with complete impunity. I won’t comment on the outcome of it, not because I dislike it, but because I think it wouldn’t be fair after all. If someone is interested, they can read the bug themselves.

Update: Alexander wrote a followup post about the whole thing: Follow-Up: Attack on Exherbo.org machine. I can’t do anything else than joining him in his thanks to the Gentoo Infrastructure Team.

PS: Some people have shown disagreement with the way I write stuff (not with what I write about). It seems I’m overly negative and bad publicity for Gentoo. If you feel that way, I apologise. My intention is to give information that I honestly think is relevant about both Gentoo and myself. I’ll try to be less negative in future, even though I’ll still post about what I think is relevant and/or important.

  1. I was thinking of removing the Gentoo OS although I didn’t get a single word of what you say. I was just scared!
Please stick to what you said in your PS, as I want to stick to Gentoo :)
Be positive, it increases my (and others who might stumble upon your blog) faith in Gentoo

  2. I’ve always been positive. I probably just didn’t know how to express it. I don’t claim Gentoo is without problems, identifying them is the first step towards solving them.

  3. Yeah, I have to say that it’s the “negativity” that gets me too. Your tone, when dealing with gentoo, can make it appear that you’ve given up on anyone ever doing anything “right”. It’s like you’re just sitting by documenting the downfall for others to laugh at. To be honest, most of the vocal Paludis folk bring this image to my mind as well. It can feel like a bunch of crows sitting on a fence.

However, I also recognize that a lot of that is just me projecting my own shadow, vitriol appears to be a problem for me.

So, anyway, I’m sure there are ways to get the point across without unnecessary damage, that is, without getting into arguments caused by the form of the message rather than the message. Maybe some of it comes down to people not liking the feeling that the “bozo bit” has been flipped.

  4. I’ve given up on some people doing anything right. Had I given up on Gentoo I’d have disappeared already.

  5. Ferdy,

why you, as a gentoo developer, don’t miss a single post to
    complain on gentoo?

While i understand a sane criticism i cant get the way (and why) everytime you write a post (published on planet) it sounds like an attack/rant.

  6. This same post you are replying to doesn’t look like a rant to me.
